Statement of Purpose

Electrical Compliance Testing Association

The Electrical Compliance Testing Association fosters the growth of a professional and value adding compliance testing resources to serve the needs of Australian and New Zealand Industry.

The Association may involve itself in such activities as are consistent with the above stated object of the Association and which the Committee has approved including:

  • 1.   Sharing of information through activities such as interpretation working groups and internal and external education.
  • 2.   Promotion of the value of testing results obtained from appropriately accredited test houses.
  • 3.   Participation in standards writing committees and working groups.
  • 4.   Provision of advice to Government on policy issues.
  • 5.   Provision of advice to Industry on compliance and approval issues.
  • 6.   Enhancement of the international competitiveness of Australian Industry by promoting compliance with internationally harmonised standards.
  • 7.   Promotion of the professional development of the membership.
  • 8.   Development and enforcement of a Code of Ethics.
  • 9.   Such activities as approved by the committee and which are of benefit to the industry.
  • ECTA members can speak as a group as ECTA represents the collective interests of the accredited testing industry in Australia and New Zealand.
  • ECTA has a voice in policy formulation by various government departments
  • ECTA members lobby at various levels in support of the testing industry
  • ECTA members participate in industry and standards working committees and have access to the latest information on standards development.
  • An organisation is eligible for full membership if it is:
    • a) electrical safety testing or
    • b) RF electromagnetic compliance testing or
    • c) telecommunications testing or
    • d) radio communications testing or
    • e) energy labelling (minimum energy performance) testing or
    • f) hazardous area equipment testing or
    • g) lighting equipment and fittings testing or
    • h) calibration laboratories related to the above fields
  • 1.  involved in one or more of the following
  • 2.  legally constituted, located and operating in Australia or New Zealand
  • 3.  accredited in Australia or New Zealand by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), IANZ or by a body accredited to be operating in accordance with ISO 17025 by an accreditation body that is a signatory of the International Laboratory Accreditation Committee (ILAC) Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA).
  • 4.  testing for the public and non-related entities for the majority of its work.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

  • An organisation is eligible for associate membership if it is:
  • 1. Any one of the following categories of organisations located in Australia or New Zealand
  • a) a corporate in-house test facility, accredited by NATA, IANZ or an accreditation body that is a signatory of the International Laboratory Accreditation Committee (ILAC) Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or
  • b) laboratories in educational institutions or
  • c) other organisations as determined by the Committee
